How do I setup MailChimp integration?



MailChimp is a leading email marketing solution used by hundreds of thousands of businesses world wide. You can integrate your MailChimp email list with Neto allowing for the seamless and automatic flow of contact details between the two applications.

What does the Neto/MailChimp integration do?

  • Export the contact details of customers (who have checked the newsletter subscription option) to MailChimp.
  • Update customer un-subscriptions on your website.

What does the Neto/MailChimp integration not do?

  • Customers who selected the newsletter subscription option prior to the MailChimp integration setup will not be exported.
  • The integration will not export subscribers (non-customers) to MailChimp
  • The integration will not send new subscribers (from the newsletter subscription form on your website) to MailChimp.

To setup MailChimp follow these steps:

  1. Sign up to MailChimp

Create an API Key

The API Key will allow your website to sync customers who have subscribed to MailChimp.

  1. Go to your MailChimp Account and select Account.

  2. Select Extras > API Keys.

  3. Click on Create a Key. Copy the API key as you will need this to setup your site.

Create a new mailing list

  1. Create a new mailing list by clicking on Lists in the top menu and then Create List.

  2. Click on Create List in the New list or groups? box.

  3. Enter the List Name. Make a copy of the mailing list name, you will need that later.

  4. Enter the rest of the details and click on Save.

Add the Webhook

The webhook allows MailChimp to update the subscription status of the customers on your site.

  1. Click on Lists in the top menu.
  2. Click on the name of the mailing list.

  3. Select Settings > Webhooks.

  4. Click on Create New Webhook.

  5. Under Callback URL enter https://www.yourdomain.com/do/MailWS/MailChimp where www.yourdomain.com is the domain name of your site.

  6. In the What type of updates should we send? section, uncheck the following:

    • Profile updates
    • Cleaned address
    • Campaign sending
  7. Click on Save.

To setup your website follow these steps:

  1. From the Neto Dashboard, go to > Email Marketing Config and click on the Mail Chimp E-mail Marketing tab.

  2. Click Setup by hovering over the MailChimp - Direct Integration card.

  3. Next to Mail chimp api url enter https://us2.api.mailchimp.com/1.3/. The us2 in the address needs to be replaced with the characters after the hyphen in your API Key. So if your API key is 02791v967721645e02e7b3823a323abf-us12, then the web address would be https://us12.api.mailchimp.com/1.3/.

  4. Next to Mail chimp api key paste in your API Key from the MailChimp website.

  5. Paste in the name of the mailing list from MailChimp into Mail chimp list name.
  6. Enter the username you use to login to your MailChimp account next to Mail chimp username. This can be found on your account settings page in MailChimp.

  7. Enter the password you use to login to your MailChimp account next to Mail chimp password.

  8. Make sure Enable mail chimp webhook is checked so that your customer details will be updated if a customer unsubscribes.

  9. Click on Save Changes.

Transferring customers who subscribed before the MailChimp integration

To export customers who has already subscribed:

Exporting subscribers from Neto

  1. From the Neto Dashboard, select Customers > View Customers & prospects.

  2. Filter the list of customers by click on the arrow and selecting Yes under Newsletter Subscriber and clicking on Apply. This will only show customers who have subscribed to the newsletter.

  3. Click on the Export button and follow the prompts.

Importing subscribers into MailChimp

  1. From the MailChimp Dashboard, click Lists and then select the relevant list name.

  2. Select Add subscribers > Import subscribers.

  3. Select CSV or tab-delimited text file and click on Next.

  4. Click on Browse and select the CSV file you exported from your website. Read the I understand that my billing plan may be automatically upgraded notice and check it if you are happy to proceed. Click Next.

  5. On the Import Subscribers page it will show the fields from the CSV and try and match them up with the fields in your MailChimp mailing list. On the following columns, click on Edit and select the corresponding field:

    • Bill First Name
    • Bill Last Name
    • Bill Company
    • Bill State
    • Bill CountrySkip the other fields.

The fields mentioned above are recommended only. You can choose other fields and add more fields to the list.
