How do I setup pre-defined packages for automatic packaging of orders?

This support article requires the Pre-defined Shipping Packages addon from Neto’s Addon Store.

What is the purpose of pre-defined packages?

You can setup pre-defined packages or cartons that can be used when creating consignments.

For example, you may have a number of standard box sizes in your warehouse that you use for shipping orders. You can configure these as Pre-Defined Packages so that the system automatically packages your orders into the appropriate boxes for you, and creates the correct number of shipping labels.

How to add pre-defined packages

Before you begin, you will need to install the free Pre-Defined Shipping Packages add-on from the Neto store.

Once this is done, to setup a pre-defined package.

  1. From the Neto Dashboard navigate to Setup & tools > All Settings & Tools

  2. Select Shipping from the left side menu, and choose Pre-defined Packages.

  3. Select Add New.

  4. Configure the fields for the package and Save.

Field Name Description
Package ID Generated automatically when saved
Package Name This will appear in your orders, and should be easily recongisable for warehouse staff
Package Dimensions Width, Length and Height of the package in centimeters
Package Cubic Calculated by width(m) x length(m) x height(m)
Minimum Weight The smallest amount of weight this package can hold
Maximum Weight The heaviest that this package can hold
Use this weight as shipping article weight Overrides the combined weight of the products in the package, and uses the Maximum Weight instead
Maximum # of products that can fit in this package Use this to limit how many items get packed into this package, regardless of size
Maximum # rule applies to all products on order Enforce the configured number of products to every package on the order
Automatically select this package if it is the best fit Allows the package to be chosen automatically in the pack stage
Status Set this package as available or not

Your pre-defined package will now be selected during order processing, should it meet the size requirements of the order.

Create New Package Types

By default you will have one package type, carton. However, you can also add package types for identification purposes, such as envelope, cylinder, pallet etc.

  1. From the Neto Dashboard navigate to Setup & Tools > All Settings & Tools.

  2. Select Shipping from the left side menu and choose Pre-defined Packages Types.

  3. Click the Add New button.

  4. Enter a Package Type and Package Description and Save.

The package type can now be chosen when creating a pre-defined package.

How do I setup automated packaging of orders?

Neto can automatically package items on orders into your predefined packages, based on the dimensions and cubic weight of your items. In such cases, the system will automatically create the correct number of shipping labels based on the number of pre-defined packages needed to pack the order.

You can configure rules around the max fill percentage per package etc by following the steps below from your Neto dashboard.

  1. From the Neto Dashboard navigate to Setup & Tools > All Settings & Tools.

  2. Select Sales Orders & Invoices from the left side menu, and choose Order Processing Rules.

  3. In the Warehouse Auto Packaging Rules section, configure the settings and Save Changes.

    • Minimum Packaging Split Percentage: If a pre-defined package is not filled to this percentage, split the order into smaller pre-defined packages.
    • Dynamic Packaging Percentage: If a pre-defined package is not filled to this percentage, allow items without a cubic or weight to be added to the pre-defined package.

If you do not setup predefined packages for automatic packaging of orders, consignments will be populated as per the dimensions, weight, and cubic of products in your database.
