Promotional shipping

eBay offers a number of promotional shipping options directly through their site, and without an API access.

To use this you need to set them up on eBay.

  1. Log into your eBay account and navigate to My eBay.

  2. Select Account and then Site Preferences

  3. Scroll down to Postage Preferences, click Show, and then Edit next to Offer Combined Payments And Postage.

  4. Select Edit to turn on Combined Payments

You can now create three different shipping rules:

    • Flat
    • Calculated
    • Promotional

Flat Postage Rule

To set up a flat postage rule

  1. Select Create below the Flat Postage Rule heading.

  2. In the pop up box, choose to either Add An Amount or Subtract An Amount for each additional item.

  3. Configure the amount to add or subtract, and select Next and then Save.

  4. Your postage rule will now be created and you’ll see a Postage Discount Profile ID which will be used later.

Tips

  • The Flat rule lets you combine items into one package, and ship that package using flat rate postage costs.

  • The Flat rule charges buyers the postage price for the item with the highest postage cost. You can then add (or subtract) an additional cost for each item purchased from you.

  • Add combined postage discounts to your listing and eBay automatically calculates the postage discount when the buyer checks out.

  • Profiles let you expand your flat postage discount rule to fit your needs. You can now specify the postage cost for each additional item, and the items do not need to be the same type of item.

Calculated Postage Rule

To set up a calculated postage rule

  1. Select Create below the Calculated Postage Rule heading.

  2. In the pop up box, choose to either Combine All Item Weights or Combine All Item Weights And Subtract An Amount for additional items.

  3. Configure the grams to subtract (if selected), and click Next.

  4. Specify how Handling Costs will be added and click Next then Save.

  5. Your postage rule will now be created and you’ll see a Postage Discount Profile ID which will be used later.

Tips

  • The Calculate rule lets you combine items into one package, and calculate the postage cost based on the weight of the package.

  • Calculated postage uses eBay’s postage calculator. Buyers enter their postcode and the postage cost is calculated according to the their location.

  • The Calculate rule charges buyers the postage price for the item with the highest postage weight. You can then add (or subtract) an additional weight for each item purchased from you.

  • Add combined postage discounts to your listing and eBay automatically calculates the postage discount when the buyer checks out.

  • Profiles let you expand your calculated postage discount rule to fit your needs. You can now specify the postage cost for each additional item, and the items do not need to be the same type of item.

Promotional Postage Rule

To set up a promotional postage rule

  1. Select Create below the Promotional Postage Rule heading.

  2. In the pop up box, choose from:

    • Spend X on 2 or more items and postage is Y
    • Buy X or more items and postage is Y
    • Spend no more than X for postage.

  3. Configure the promotional costs & details, and click Next then Save.

Your postage rule will now be created.

Tip

  • The promotional postage rule you select applies to all listings that have combined postage discounts (for both flat and calculated postage costs).

  • Buyers who see free postage for multiple purchases are more likely to purchase more than one item from a seller.

  • When buyers qualify for your promotional postage rule, the promotion takes priority over your flat or calculated postage cost rules.

Configuring Your Listing Rules Templates

To configure your combined postage rule in Neto:

  1. From the Neto Dashboard navigate to eBay > Listing Rule Templates

  2. Open the rules template that you wish to apply combined postage to by selecting the ID.

  3. Select the Shipping tab and check the Apply My eBay Promotional Shipping Rule.

  4. Enter the Discount Profile ID from eBay, and click Save Template & Revise Active Listings.

Configure Shipping

When using Promotional Shipping orders will download to Neto with one of two service names.

  • 1599 - Domestic
  • 51599 - International

These services need to be mapped to Neto shipping methods so that the correct method appears on your order in Neto.

Example 1

The flat postage rule has been set so that additional items are free, and no more than $10 will be paid for total postage. To use this rules you would need to enter the promo ID in listing template under shipping tab.

Example 2

Two different flat rate options are defined in this example. One for 5 per additional item. Each one of these has a unique ID number which you can then associate with a listing rules template in the system. Only the one you use on listing template will be utilised.

This setup also has a promo postage rule associated that does not require any ID added to listing rules template. It has been set to only charge a maximum of $20 postage no matter how many items are purchased.

Example 3

This final example utilises 2 different flat postage options but has the promo pricing set to be free shipping if total purchases are over $100 in value. This effectively eliminates the flat postage rules, but they still need to be linked on listing rules template.
