Installing design templates

A design template is a format for the look of the description part of a listing. Neto includes a number of free eBay listing design templates that you can use, alternatively you can build your own or you can employ Neto’s in house design services.

A professionally designed eBay listing is proven to increase conversion rates. You can view examples of Neto’s work and place an order here.

Creating your own design template

Neto’s listing template system supports custom HTML and CSS. Combined with B@SE, our template tagging language, you can create highly customised and dynamic eBay listing templates.

B@SE Tags work hand-in-hand with standard HTML Tags to display content and functions within your eBay templates. Simply copy and paste the relevant tag to the relevant location in your template and the software will do the rest.

You will find a list of B@SE tags related to eBay templates and examples of code snippets for the display of category menus, image galleries, search forms and more here.

It’s important to note that as described in the eBay 2016 Spring Seller Update, the use of active content in listings, including JavaScript, Flash, plug-ins and form actions, inhibits purchases on mobile devices and is currently been phased out across eBay over the next year.

You can also get the latest tips and tricks from eBay’s best practice guide which will show you how to layout your design.

Install a free eBay design template and customise it

  1. From the Neto dashboard, go to Ebay > Theme Editor to get started.

  2. In the designer editor you will see a list of design templates setup for you to preview and make changes on. By default, there will be one template called Layout #5: Your Description Field which is just a blank template.

  3. Install New eBay Design Template.

  4. Select a template you wish to install. If you intend on charging calculated freight costs for shipping then make sure you select a template that includes a shipping calculator.

  5. Once installed, you’ll be back on the theme template page where you can modify the Name of your template as well as the logo, background and colour scheme as you scroll down the page. There is also a tab called HTML/CSS for people who are familiar with coding and want to edit the template even further.

  6. To preview your design with a SKU, hit the Change link just underneath the Naming & Styling tab.

  7. Once complete, press the Apply Changes to Template button at the bottom and then click the Back to Theme Store button to go back to your Neto dashboard.

Advanced users can edit the html/source code of the template by clicking on the “HTML/CSS” tab. You will typically require HTML or web design skills to do this.

Install a custom eBay listing design template

  5. Tag your code with Neto List&Send template tags by selecting from the drop down menu and clicking ‘Insert’.
