Importing Products into Neto



Using the Data Import Wizard

Use the Data Import Wizard to import .CSV files (spreadsheets) into your website. You can import the following:

  1. From the Neto Dashboard navigate to Setup & Tools > Import Data.



  2. Select Perform Complex Import and then Start Data Import Wizard.



  3. Please Note:If you want to import data from other file types (xml, txt etc) or an external location such as an FTP location or web address you must do so using a data import template. These import templates have advanced features such as feed scheduling, find and replace functionality, update control and more.

  4. Sample Import Files - You can download sample import files by visiting our Importing Data page. You can populate this with your own data, or use a CSV file created earlier.
    • What are You Importing? - Select what type of data you are importing.
    • How Are You Uploading Your File? - Select Manual Upload to import a file now. The other options are advanced and will be covered in the Import Templates documentation.
    • Upload File - Select a .CSV file from your computer.
    • Select Choose File and browse to the CSV file that contains your data.



    When complete Continue To Next Step.

  5. The CSV file will be uploaded and the wizard will try to match the column names in the import file with fields in the Neto database.



  6. This is where you map the Column Names from your import file with the Database Fields on your web store.

    If you are using one of our sample templates then the fields should be mapped correctly. Have a look in the first column. If you see any fields marked – ignore column –, this means it could not match the column with a field in the database. You can click on the drop down menu and select the correct field from the list.

    If the is a column you don’t want to import you can select – Ignore Column – on that row to prevent it from being imported. You can also click on the red cross on the right to remove that column from being imported.

    If you have removed a column by mistake, click on the Add Extra Field button and select the name of the column from your file under Column Name. Then select the database field you want to map it to in the Database Field Name column.

  7. In the Update Options step you can select how your imported data will integrate with existing products on your site.



    • Add New / Update Existing Products - will create a new product if the SKU does not exist on your site. If it does, it will update that product.
    • Add New Products Only - will create a new product if the SKU does not exist on your site. If it does, the product will not be updated.
    • Update Existing Products Only - new products will not be created. Only products with matching SKUs will be updated.
    • Replace All Existing Products - this will delete any product on your site that is not in the import file (not recommended).

    In most cases, you would select Add New / Update Existing Products.

    When complete Continue To Next Step.

  8. If you want to save this import as a template that you can use again, check Do You Wish To Save This Import Session As An Import Template To Import With In The Future? and select a template name when prompted.



  9. Select Process File Now to queue the import process.

Please Note: Depending on the size of the import file, it can take up to 15 minutes to complete.

Import Wizard FAQ

Does my import file need to have columns named exactly the same as my website database?

No, you can map columns during the import process. This negates the need to name columns in any specific way.

Can I upload HTML into an items description field?

Yes, if a field accepts HTML through your control panel, you can import HTML into that field using the import wizard.

What is the unique identifier for an item when importing a file to update inventory?

SKU

Is there a list of inventory import fields?

How many records can I upload at once?

As many as you like, your only limitation is the browser time out. If the import file is too large, the browser will time out during an upload. In these cases you can split your files up into smaller sizes.

If I leave a field blank in a file that I upload, will that field be ignored or replaced with blank data?

It will be replaced with blank data. Therefore, if you do not want to update a field through a file upload, do not include that field in your import file.

Can I upload a blank file with just headers?

Yes, you can do this to create an import template. Note: If you choose the update option “replace all” and you upload a blank file, all records will be purged or replaced.

Will any products I upload automatically be visible on the website?

No, products will need to be Active and Approved in order to be visible on the website after upload. You can mark items as active and approved using the column headers Active and Approved and the static values Y or N (yes or no).

  • Active products can be sold through all channels including eBay, webshop, POS and control panel. Inactive products cannot be sold. This can be used to differentiate old and new stock.
  • Approved products are visible and can be seen on the web shop.

What if I have two columns mapped to the same header/ identifier in Neto?

This will cause an error. Please only map one column to a header at a time.

Can I make changes to the data feed template that change the import/ export data?

Changes can be made to the data using the bulk find and replace feature within the import template. View more information here.
