Adding / importing your products and product categories



You can add products and categories to Neto POS from your Neto control panel or back office one at a time or by importing in bulk.

Product categories are used to organise your products both on your POS register interface and on your webshop (if you choose to have a Neto webshop). This makes it quick and easy for customers and staff to find products.

Product fields recommended for POS

Neto supports a number of product types and fields,  the following fields are the most popular fields used by POS merchants.

Creating products from your register

Creating products from your Neto POS register is incredibly easy. Whilst your register is online, tap on the menu and tap the 'Add Product' item.

Note: Neto POS only supports creating standard products from the Register interface. To create variation products or kits, you need to use the control panel interface. Continue reading for more details.

Now you can enter the details of your product, and assign the product into categories. If you have the ecommerce add-on installed you can even create products that will appear on your web store.

When you are finished making changes, tap the save button and you are done! The changes will be reflected in your Neto control panel and your webstore (if you have the ecommerce add-on installed). Remember to synchronise your other registers for new products to be downloaded.

Product Images

To assist staff users in locating products quickly on the register, we recommend adding images to your products. Images should be in .jpg, .gif or .png and should be less than 2MB in size when uploaded. Neto will automatically resize the images you upload.

Note: Images are downloaded and adjust in the background, and for Neto POS are processed overnight. Be sure to synchronise your registers the next day for the images to appear.

When a product does not have an image Neto POS will assign a two letter code to the product tile to help you identify it.

How to add products and categories using the web interface

  1. Login to your control panel

  2. Go to: Products > + New Product in your menu.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions

How to import products and categories in bulk  

  1. Login to your control panel

  2. Go to: Setup & tools > Import data in your menu.

  3. Select the type of data you want to import (eg: products)

  4. Select “Simple Import”

The system will then popup a dialogue box, with the option to upload a .CSV file containing your data. Here you will also find a link to download a template to use for your .CSV file. Click on the link to download the .CSV template.

  1. Populate the template with your data (eg: products). Each new item should appear on a new line in your file.

  2. Tip: You can remove columns from the file you are importing if you do not want to populate the related data. Please ensure that the column header names you choose to keep remain the same. The system will look for these column header names to map to the correct fields in Neto.

  3. Once you have populated your spreadsheet, save it as a .CSV file.

  4. Return to the popup dialog and upload the .CSV file that contains your data.

The system will scan your file for issues / errors. If no errors are found, your file will be imported and the results of the import will be displayed.

Note: it can take up to 5 minutes to import a data file - depending on the size of the file and your local internet connection. Remember to synchronise your registers to see the new products and updates.

What is a .CSV file?

A CSV is a Comma Separated Values File, which allows data to be saved in a table structured format. CSV files look like regular spreadsheet but with the extension of .CSV.

CSV files can be opened with an edited in any spreadsheet program, including: Microsoft Excel, Open Office or Google Spreadsheets.

Saving .CSV files in Microsoft Excel

In Microsoft Excel, you can save any spreadsheet as a .CSV file by following these instructions:

  1. Open your file in your spreadsheet program.

  2. Click on “File” and choose “Save As”

  3. Under Save as type, choose CSV (Comma delimited).

  4. Click Save

You may see a message that your file "may contain features that are not compatible with CSV". Click Yes to continue. This message is to inform you that any formatting you may have (such as colors or bold text) and any formulas will not be preserved in the CSV formatted file.
