Promotional shipping

eBay offers a number of promotional shipping options directly through their site and without an API access.

To use this you need to set them up on eBay by going to site preferences > postage preferences > Offer promotional postage discounts

Within the next page you can define 3 different shipping rules:

  • Flat
  • Calculated
  • Promotional

Combined Payments

The first requirement is to allow combined payments from different listings.

  • Click Edit under Combined payments
  • Select Allow on popup.
  • Select the period of time between different purchases you wish to allow combined payments for

Flat Postage Rule

To set up flat postage rules you can choose between:

  • Add an amount for each additional amount
  • Subtract an amount from each additional amount

Tip

  • The Flat rule lets you combine items into one package, and ship that package using flat rate postage costs.
  • The Flat rule charges buyers the postage price for the item with the highest postage cost. You can then add (or subtract) an additional cost for each item purchased from you.
  • Add combined postage discounts to your listing and eBay automatically calculates the postage discount when the buyer checks out. You add combined postage discounts to your listings in the Sell Your Item form.
  • Profiles let you expand your flat postage discount rule to fit your needs. You can now specify the postage cost for each additional item, and the items do not need to be the same type of item.

Calculated Postage Rule

To set a calculated postage rate you choose between:

  • Combine all item weights
  • Combine all item weights and subtract an amount

Tip

  • The Calculate rule lets you combine items into one package, and calculate the postage cost based on the weight of the package.
  • Calculated postage uses eBay's postage calculator. Buyers enter their postcode and the postage cost is calculated according to the their location.
  • The Calculate rule charges buyers the postage price for the item with the highest postage weight. You can then add (or subtract) an additional weight for each item purchased from you.
  • Add combined postage discounts to your listing and eBay automatically calculates the postage discount when the buyer checks out. You add combined postage discounts to your listings in the Sell Your Item form.
  • Profiles let you expand your calculated postage discount rule to fit your needs. You can now specify the postage cost for each additional item, and the items do not need to be the same type of item.

Promotional Postage Rule

To set a promotional postage rule choose between:

 Not offered
Spend   on 2 or more items and postage is
Buy  or more items and postage is
Spend no more than   for postage on a single order.

Tip

  • The promotional postage rule you select applies to all listings that have combined postage discounts (for both flat and calculated postage costs).
  • Buyers who see free postage for multiple purchases are more likely to purchase more than one item from a seller.
  • When buyers qualify for your promotional postage rule, the promotion takes priority over your flat or calculated postage cost rules.

Example 1

Below is where flat postage rules has been set to free per additional item and no more than $10 will be paid for total postage. To use this rules you would need to enter the promo ID in listing template under shipping tab.

Example 2

Below has 2 different flat rate options defined. One for $2 per additional and one for $5 per additional. Each one of these has a unique ID number which you can then associate with a listing rules template in the system. Only the one you use on listing template will be utilised.

This setup also has a promo postage rule associated that does not require any ID added to listing rules template. It has been set to only charge a max of $20 in postage no matter how many additional items.

Example 3

This final example utilises 2 different flat postage options but has the promo pricing set to be free shipping if total purchases are over $100 in value. This effectively eliminates the flat postage rules but they still need to be linked on listing rules template.
