How to bulk upload product images

Video Transcript

Neto provides the ability to bulk upload images from a .zip file as opposed to adding images to an item one at a time via the product page. This is really useful if you have 100’s or even 1000’s of items on your Neto web store.

Neto supports bulk uploading product, brand, RMA and content images.

Getting Started

Before you upload anything, you need to make sure your images are prepared correctly. Neto will only accept a bulk upload of images if they are correctly named and formatted.

Preparing your images

Let’s start by creating some folders to structure your images. Create the following folders:

  • Product Images

  • Alt_1

  • Alt_2

  • Alt_3

  • Alt_4

Alt is short for alternative - these are additional images you can use to help display your product. You can have as many as you like.

When naming your images, you want to ensure they are named exactly the same as the related product or variation SKU or, in the case of brands images, the brand name. All images must be in a .gif, .jpg or .png format.

For example, if you are uploading an image for a Black iPod Nano, and the SKU for the Black iPod Nano is IPODNB, then save the images as IPODNB.jpg or IPODNB.gif.

You can now place the relevant images into the folders you have created. The primary or main image will go into the Product Images folder, the 1st alternative image will go into the Alt_1 folder and so on.

You should now have something that looks like this:

  • Product Images

    • IPODNB.jpg

    • IPODNR.jpg

    • IPODNG.jpg

  • Alt_1

    • IPODNB.jpg

    • IPODNR.jpg

    • IPODNG.jpg

  • Alt_2

    • IPODNB.jpg

    • IPODNR.jpg

    • IPODNG.jpg

Now that all your folders contain the images for your SKU’s, we can put them into zip files. Start by opening the Product Images folder, selecting all the images inside it and zipping them by right clicking on the selected images. Do this for the each of the alternative folders.

Do not zip the folder containing the images, only zip the images contained within the folder. (This will create a folder with images inside, not a folder within a folder.)

You should know have several zip files containing the different types of images for your SKU’s:

  • Product Images.zip

  • Alt_1.zip

  • Alt_2.zip

  • Alt_3.zip

Uploading the Zipped Images

Now that your images are prepared, you can upload them to Neto. In the Neto control panel, go to:

Import/ Export > Bulk Import Images

The Bulk Upload Images page contains a list of upload locations. To bulk upload images to any of the locations, click the location name. For example, select the Product Images location.

You will be taken to the Bulk Upload page for that image type where you can browse and upload the appropriate .zip folder.

Neto will automatically map the uploaded images to their correct items via the SKU. Neto will also automatically resize and optimize all the images for your website, creating thumbnails on the fly.

Depending on number of images uploaded and the resizing and optimization required, this process may take anywhere from 5-30 minutes to process.
