Netour De Bay - The Ride To Fight MS

08 Jun 2018 4 min read

Brissie to the Bay - The Ride to Fight MS is an annual cycling event that exists to raise funds to support the increasing number of people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), which affects more young people than any other acquired chronic neurological disease.

Between one and two Australians are diagnosed with MS every single day, with an average age of diagnosis of just 30 years old.

Every case of MS is unique – the symptoms, severity, and progression of the disease is different for everyone and MS Queensland is committed to helping those living with MS by providing programs and support aimed at improving their quality of life.

This is a cause close to the hearts of all of us here at Neto – with our Chairman Kevin Udell, currently living with the disease, and to show our support we've decided to join thousands of other Aussies, on Sunday the 17th June in the Ride to Fight MS.

The Ride

Riders are able to choose between the family friendly 10km, the scenic 25km, the classic 50km or the challenging 100km, but never ones to shy away from a challenge, in just under two weeks 23 Netorians will be slipping into some lycra and strapping on some helmets to take part in the 100km ride.

With experience levels ranging from ‘I haven’t ridden a bike in over 5 years’ and ‘What are my gears for?’ to ‘I rode 110km last weekend’, we certainly had our work cut out for us!

In early March we set out for our first training ride and clocked up just over 12 km, (only 88 km to go!) and have been slowly but surely upping the distance every week since.

Our First Ride

As our first fundraising event, we held a Neto Style Bake Off, with a goal to raise a few hundred dollars and kickstart our fundraising. We were able to absolutely smash this goal and raised $1190.16 in a matter of a few hours! Netorians love a good feast.

Despite the 4am alarms, cold winter’s mornings, a couple of flat tyres and a stack or two, the team is excited and ready to ride on Sunday the 17th of June for this great cause.
